The 3-ton is a great workhorse: the package we send out most, because it fits the way most productions shoot. Commercials, documentaries, interviews, branded content, corporate work — a full working complement of stands, 8x8 and 12x12 overheads, flags, hardware, gels, and expendables, in a truck that gets into locations the big box can't.
Like every Photon truck, the 3-ton comes with a Photon gaffer who knows the pack, drives the truck, and keeps your set moving. We're based in Richmond and run the 3-ton across Virginia and the Mid-Atlantic — and lighting, generators, a jib, or additional crew can ride on the same booking.

For many commercials, docs, interviews, and corporate work — yes, comfortably. The honest test: if your biggest overhead is 12x12 or smaller and ten C-stands covers your day, the 3-ton is your truck. If you're rigging 20-footers or running long multi-day builds, look at the 5-ton. Tell us about the shoot and we'll recommend honestly.

Yes. Trucks are driven to your location by your Photon gaffer, billed at $2.10/mile from our Richmond base. For most Virginia locations that's a straightforward line item — tell us your location when you request a quote and we'll give you the exact number.

Every Photon truck comes with a Photon crew member who drives the truck, knows the package inside out, and works your shoot — as your gaffer, or as an electrician or grip if you've got the gaffer covered. The crew member is engaged directly by the production, and the rate is quoted separately. Need more G&E for the shoot? Bring it up when you request a quote.

Mileage charges apply from Richmond. For shoots beyond the immediate region, production is responsible for the gaffer's travel days, lodging, and meals — standard practice for out-of-town crew. Multi-day and multi-week rates are available: the longer the run, the more room we have to work with you on the package.

We require a certificate of insurance covering the rented equipment, naming Photon Grip & Electric as additionally insured. Most production insurance policies handle this in a quick email with your broker. Booking without production insurance? Contact us and we'll talk through options.
